Privacy & POPIA Notice
Last updated 18 June 2026
Typie collects and processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). This notice explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have.
Who is responsible
Typie is operated by D. Visser, a sole proprietor based in South Africa. For the purposes of POPIA, D. Visser is the responsible party and the Information Officer.
Use this address for any question about your personal information or this notice.
What we collect
- Your name and email address, when you register an account.
- Payment information, when you buy a message pack. Payments are processed by PayFast. We do not store your card or banking details — PayFast handles these directly.
- The content of your practice conversations, including any details you type about your business, your staff, your customers, or the situations you are practising.
Why we collect it
- To create and manage your account.
- To provide the coaching service and keep a record of your practice.
- To process payments for message packs.
- To send you service email, such as account and payment confirmations.
A note on conversation content
Typie lets you practise real business conversations, so you may type details about other people — staff, customers, suppliers. Share only what you need for the practice. Do not enter other people's personal information beyond what the conversation requires.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the service providers that run Typie:
- PayFast — payment processing.
- Resend — sending service email.
- Anthropic — the AI that powers the coaching. Your conversation content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate coaching responses. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, this content is not used to train their models and is not retained beyond a short processing period.
- Railway — hosting and database.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party marketing.
Where your information is processed
Some of these providers process data outside South Africa. POPIA permits cross-border processing where the provider is subject to comparable data-protection rules or contractual safeguards.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information and practice history for as long as your account is active. Message packs expire 12 months after purchase. You can ask us to delete your account and the information attached to it at any time.
Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Object to how we process your information, free of charge.
- Complain to the Information Regulator.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@typie.co.za.
The Information Regulator
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
